  • Effects of a Psychedelic, Tropical Tea, Ayahuasca, on the Electroencephalographic (EEG) Activity of the Human Brain during a Shamanistic Ritual

Eight channels of EEG from 12 volunteers participating in a workshop in Brazil were recorded under field conditions before and after a shamanistic ritual in which the psychoactive tea, Ayahuasca, was consumed.

The results did not match those of similar studies done with other psychedelics (e.g. LSD, mescaline, psilocybin). Instead, the results were comparable someone who was in a meditative state, only more profound. The results also suggest that ingesting Ayahuasca may provide individuals with increased access to subconscious processes and feelings while in a wakeful, relaxed state. Thus, Ayahuasca has the potential to become a potent tool in the process of psychotherapy.
  • Effects of Ayahuasca On Psychometric Measures of Anxiety, Panic-Like and Hopelessness In Santo Daime Members
(University of Brazil, University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro)

This study investigated the effects of Ayahuasca on psychometric measures of anxiety, panic-like and hopelessness in members of the Santo Daime, an Ayahuasca-using religion, who have been active with Ayahuasca for 10 years.

Participants did various written tests/surveys used in the medical profession to monitor emotional states. Just by using acute doses of the brew signs of hopelessness/panic dropped significantly. Based on these results ,and on previous studies which looked at Ayahuasca on more of a molecular level, it is clear that the brew effects the release of serotonin in a similar fashion that Western Medicine anti-depressants do.

Dr. Mabit founded the Takiwasi Center, a drug rehab facility which uses Ayahuasca as its main source of healing. One third of the patients who begin treatment with Dr. Mabit are completely cured through his methods and a success rate of 70% for those who complete the full treatment. Besides curing drug addiction there has been accounts of remissions from cancer, cures for deafness, and lifting of depression through the healing processes at the Takiwasi Center.

  • There are too many books to list here, and honestly neither Luco nor Meghan have read any of them (they have been called to learn more directly). So we can't even list them without that seem like a recommendation. Use your instinct, put it out to the Universe you want something good, and see what happens...
