FAQs About the Shamans

Is Eloy ("Luco") Navarro a native of the village?
Yes, Eloy grew up in Jenaro Herrera, where the program is held.
How long has he been working with the Medicine?
In 2010 it will be 28 years since he started his apprenticeship, under his older brother Celiz, later with Don Julio Girena-Pinedo.
Is he considered a 'Master Shaman'?
Eloy does not believe in the relatively new 'Master Shaman' system (which has been around only the last 40 years or so, since the Western world took interest in the Medicine.) Historically, shamans were referred to as simply ayahuasceros, medicos, curanderos (healers), or shamans. In Spanish, the term for Master Shaman is Maestro, which has two translations: one for teacher and one for master. Regardless of how it was orginially used, Eloy believes that often the 'Master' status separates the participants from the shaman, putting him or her on a pedestal, and running the risk of too much power with coming with the status. So of course, with 28 years in the Medicine, he has the abilities of a Master Shaman, but don't call him one (he really doesn't like it!)
I worked with a shaman before, and he did things differently. How do I know which one is right?
There are as many ways to approach the Medicine as there are stars in the sky (okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration.) However, the Medicine is a very loving, non-judgemental world, and there are only a few hard and fast safety rules. When choosing a shaman, find one that is simply a good match for you; there are many equally amazing and different shamans out there.
Has Eloy worked with Westerners in the Medicine for a long time?
Yes. His older brother worked with Westerners while Eloy was in his apprenticeship, so he is very accustomed to the Western types of energies that are purged.
What is his approach?
Eloy believes in allowing each person to learn from the Medicine directly, instead of doing their homework for them. He will assist as needed, but he basically creates a space for healing and training ground for each person to develop the skills needed to serve them for the rest of their lives. His approach is non-invasive and support-oriented, supplemented by a lot of fun (no one can last doing this much shadow work without balancing it out with Light!) He is very laid back and will allow room for you to make and learn from mistakes, but will tap you back on path when necessary.
Are Meghan and Eloy a couple?
Meghan and Eloy were in a serious relationship for about two years. Since then, they have evolved to a more flexible state of love,
allowing them just to be in their connection. They are spiritual service soul-mates, and that trumps physical world labels.
